Socio-Economic Research

We are committed to influencing change though an evidence-based approach to policy and practice.  All our work is underpinned by the clear thinking and insight that comes from effective research and experience.

This is consistent with the Government’s approach to evidence based policy making – the more robust the evidence base the more likely success will be achieved.

Baseline Studies

Baseline studies are designed to support clients to make informed assessments of the challenges facing communities and help identify potential solutions. We examine in detail the socio-economic conditions in specific areas to fully inform economic development and regeneration decisions.

Industry Reviews

We undertake industry reviews that analyse the scale and structure of key industry sectors and value chains, identifying potential for future growth and development.

Community Benefits Analysis

EKOS is experienced in analysing the potential scale and scope for community benefits arising from major infrastructure projects, particularly to support competitive tendering processes for development, construction and operational activity.  We work with public and private sector organisations to develop appropriate approaches to securing benefits, including design of new services.

Labour Market Analysis

We have considerable experience of examining the detailed operations of labour markets, identifying key skills issues and challenges in a range of thematic and geographic contexts.

Place Health Checks

We provide focused assessments of the health of particular places against specific criteria. For example we have extensive experience of undertaking town centre heath checks in support of regeneration strategies and masterplans.

We also have long standing relationships with a range of market research providers, allowing us to undertake all sizes of primary research assignments in a cost-efficient manner. This includes in-street interviews, business and beneficiary interviews, and postal and on-line surveys. Our staff are also experienced focus group facilitators, skilled in the range of participatory research techniques, essential to successfully engaging target beneficiary groups.
