Place Development and Regeneration
Place making and area regeneration are key building blocks of economic development. We have wide experience of working with public and private clients in the development, appraisal and evaluation of physical development and regeneration projects.
We work with public sector organisations from National Government to Local Authorities, regeneration bodies including development agencies and Urban Regeneration Companies, private development clients and their agents, and local community groups and trusts.
Area Regeneration – Urban and Rural Development
We have extensive experience in area regeneration, ranging from masterplans and appraisals for major projects, to assisting smaller community-led initiatives in urban and rural settings. Past experience includes development and evaluation of regeneration plans, analysis of issues and constraints, options appraisals, socio-economic impact assessments, and market and financial appraisals.
Property Market Research
We regularly undertake supply, demand, market failure, and impact assessments for a range of property market sectors and development projects. Our experience includes business, residential, leisure, education and retail. We have also prepared property strategies for local areas to identify supply, demand and future development needs.
Business Plans
We are adept at preparing project Business Plans for clients, presenting the case for investment to external partners. Our experience includes development of the €100m JESSICA EU Business Plan for North West England, the £12m RSNO New Wing development at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, and an Area Regeneration Business Plan for the Camlachie Community Group in Glasgow’s East End.
Transport, Connectivity and Infrastructure
Transport is an essential ‘hygiene factor’ in place development and regeneration. At EKOS we have considerable experience of research to support transport and connectivity projects including major developments to road and rail networks, airports and shipping. We also have experience across utilities and other infrastructure including power, waste and ICT.
Historic Buildings
Working with a range of clients – including Housing Associations, Local Authorities and the World Monument Fund – we have prepared economic viability assessments and project business plans for the restoration and redevelopment of historic buildings. Past studies include Greek Thomson’s St Vincent Street Church in Glasgow, the Carluke High Mill, Askit Building in Possilpark, and Mosesfield House, Springburn.
Property Development Support
We regularly work with private sector clients to support planning applications and assist with funding bids to public sector organisations. Our experience covers all areas of property development including residential, leisure, business, education, retail and leisure.
Town Centre Regeneration
We work both independently and in partnership with other consultants to develop, appraise and evaluate town centre regeneration projects, and are adept at identifying constraints and opportunities facing individual locations. We have long-standing relationships with architects, masterplanners and property consultants, and regularly combine our skills and resources to build teams with broad expertise to meet our clients’ needs.
