Creative Economy
The UK can rightly claim to be a global leader in creativity and the creative industries. From vibrant cultural institutions to thriving creative businesses, the creative industries are an essential part of the UK’s current and future economic mix.
We have a long track record in creative economy work for a broad range of clients across the UK, including national and local government, regional development agencies, universities, broadcasters, trade associations and national agencies. Our work here includes industry and market analysis, strategy and policy development, project and programme appraisal and evaluation, feasibility studies, and business planning.
Policy Focused Research
Much of our work is focused on developing a deeper understanding of the creative economy and its role in national and regional economic development. Through detailed industry and market analysis, strategy development and bespoke research, our work has consistently influenced creative industries policy at the national and regional levels.
Evaluation
We have extensive experience of evaluating projects and programmes aimed at developing the creative and cultural sectors. From large-scale artist residency programmes to tailored support for creative businesses, our evaluation experience spans the full extent of the creative economy, and we have robust and innovative methods for the assessment of economic, social and cultural impacts.
Business Plans
We are adept at preparing Business Plans for clients that present the case for investment to external partners. Our experience includes development of the £12m Royal Scottish National Orchestra New Wing Business Plan at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, and a business plan for the University of Abertay’s highly successful Dare to be Digital initiative.
Funding and Investment
A substantial proportion of our creative economy work has examined issues relating to funding and investment for the sector. This ranges from detailed evaluation of different funding schemes and investment projects to the development of new investment models tailored to the particular and distinctly different needs of various parts of the creative industries.
Arts and Culture
Some of our creative economy work focuses on the issues and challenges of building and sustaining a vibrant arts and cultural sector. We work with arts organisations, local authorities and arts development agencies to help inform their activities, evaluate projects and programmes and secure the funding that will support the growth of a viable 21st century arts community.
