Brian has 15 years experience in economic and cultural development, specialising in issues relating to arts and culture, creative industries and innovation. He has specific skills in economic and social research, impact assessment and evaluation. In the last few years, he has undertaken art and creative industries related research, strategy, and evaluation work for a wide range of clients including UK and Scottish Government departments, cultural agencies, national performing arts companies, higher education institutions and national broadcasters.
Brian has conducted numerous economic analyses of the arts and creative industries in Scotland and elsewhere and was the UK representative on a major European project to harmonise statistics on cultural employment across the EU. He has also been engaged by the British Council as an expert adviser on international creative industries mapping projects and is highly regarded for his expertise in these areas.
He serves on the Boards of the Tron Theatre and NVA arts organisation, and is a member of the Social Research Association and the Forum on Creative Industries, an influential network of academics and researchers working in the arts and creative industries.
